Concept

Tokonoma or “toka” is a specific space in a traditional Japanese home where scrolls and ikebana flower arrangements are given a place of respect. With origins dating back to 800 AD, tokas were adopted by Zen monasteries and as well as morphed into Buddhist altars. Much later, Frank Lloyd Wright adapted this concept by designing the toka into the modern-day fireplace.
