FIRE. MYSTERY. MAGIC.
I freeze time with fire. I bury symbols, words, straw, sand, seeds, and other natural elements into beeswax, encapsulating the passage of time and memory for you to discover.
Encaustic gives me the ability to build five, ten, even fifteen layers which I scrape, gouge, carve and draw into to build texture which adds depth to the painting. Finally, I fuse each layer with fire so that they become a cultural record of my process.
The Greek word that means “to burn in,” the encaustic technique comprises of beeswax, damar and color. My primary focus is on making monotypes as well as using encaustic to painti directly onto a surface.
